Pop star Jessie J Shares Health Update After Unexpected Hospitalization From Breast Cancer Surgery, opening up about a recent health scare that landed her back in the hospital just six weeks after her operation.
According to E! News, the 37‑year‑old singer — born Jessie Ellen Cornish — revealed through her Instagram Stories on Saturday (Aug. 2) that she had been admitted again due to concerning symptoms.
“How I spent the last 24 hours,” Jessie wrote, sharing a photo of herself with an IV in her arm. “Six weeks post‑surgery and I was back in the same ward I was after my surgery. Not expected or planned. I had and still have symptoms that pointed towards a blood clot on the lung. IT IS NOT A BLOOD CLOT THANK GOD.”
Doctors Find Infection, Not Blood Clot
Jessie explained that after extensive testing, doctors determined she had an infection and some fluid in her lungs. “Finding it hard to breathe in, but I discharged myself last night (I hate being in hospital) and will continue the investigation as an outpatient,” she noted.
Keeping Her Humor Through Recovery
In an update on Sunday (Aug. 3), the “Bang Bang” hitmaker admitted she still didn’t have all the answers. “I finally got a diagnosis of what’s been going on. Lots of people have been asking, apparently it’s called… Dramatic? I think that’s the spelling. My symptoms are the same and no idea what’s wrong yet. But my sarcasm and sense of humor are holding on.”
Sharing a candid selfie video from bed, Jessie told fans this was her first real‑time update since her surgery. “I think people think that I’m like hanging on by a thread… which in some moments has felt that way,” she admitted. “Like two or three days ago when I woke up and I couldn’t breathe. I still have pain in my chest when I breathe, but it’s not as bad.”
Despite lingering discomfort, Jessie said she now has “very few other symptoms,” giving her hope it was just a viral issue. She emphasized that she’s taking the advice of loved ones to rest and recover.
Grateful for Her Support System
The singer thanked her mom for being her rock and expressed appreciation for friends and family who’ve been helping with her two‑year‑old son, Sky. “I’m very grateful for my little gang,” she wrote.
A Positive Milestone in July
Just last month, Jessie shared a moment of relief with fans after medical tests showed no evidence of her cancer spreading following her June diagnosis. “AND. I AM OK. Results = I have NO cancer spread. Happy tears are real. Thank YOU for the prayers, the love, the well wishes, the joy and all the positive energy,” she captioned in an emotional Instagram video.
Jessie underwent her initial breast cancer surgery on June 23. At the time, she told fans her cancer was “all gone,” though she later clarified she was awaiting test results for confirmation. “Lots of healing to go and one more surgery to make these cousins look more like sisters, but for now it’s gratitude time,” she added, humorously dubbing herself “The LopJess monster” in reference to her mastectomy and breast reconstruction journey.
