The rapper reached a plea deal that also resolves charges of prescription fraud, and could be out of prison next year

YoungBoy Never Broke Again has been sentenced to 23 months in prison in a federal gun case that has run on since 2020. Charged with multiple counts of possessing firearms as a convicted felon, the Louisiana-born rapper, whose legal name is Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, reached a global plea deal that also reduces four other charges to misdemeanors and resolves a separate case involving charges of prescription fraud. He will receive credit for time served and could be out next year, before a 60-month probation period.

“This has been a long road that involved extensive litigation and ultimately extensive negotiation,” YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s attorneys, Drew Findling, Jeremy M. Delicino, and Jon Williams, said in a statement shared with Pitchfork. “Kentrell’s defense team is very happy for Kentrell and we look forward to his many future successes.”

YoungBoy Never Broke Again has been living in Utah since 2021. He spent more than two years under house arrest, but he was transferred to jail, in May, after police officers raided his home and said they found evidence of a “large-scale prescription drug fraud ring” and a gun. The musician, last month, agreed to plead guilty to charges connected to the alleged drug ring, but he was not sentenced to time in a Utah state prison, as the judge expected him to be serving time in federal prison.
